State the principle of an ac generator. Write an expression for the maximum emf produced in it ?

The working of A.C generator is based on phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. When a closed coil is rotated rapidly in a uniform magnetic field, the magnetic flux linked with the coil changes continuously which results in setting an induced emf in the coil. This induced emf causes a current to flow in the coil.

Induced emf,                     

E = NBA sinωt

Emax = NBA  (when sinωt = 1)

N = number of turns of coil

= angular speed of rotation

B = strength of magnetic field

A = area of coil
