If the object is placed at negative infinity greater than x greater than negative f
then real and inverted image appear in region (d)
 
If the incident rays are converging then the object is virtual and image appears in the region (c)
 
If two thin lenses are put in contact,  the resultant focal length will be
1 over F equals 1 over f subscript 1 plus 1 over f subscript 2
1 over F equals 1 over f plus fraction numerator 1 over denominator negative 3 f end fraction
F equals fraction numerator 3 f over denominator 2 end fraction
