Q: If one of the zeros of the cubic polynomial x3+ax2+bx+c is -1 then the product of the other two zeros is:
Solution:
Let p and q be the other two zeros of the polynomial P(x)=x3+ax2+bx+c
Using the relation between the zeros and coefficients we have
p+q+(-1)=-a ... (i)
pq + q(-1) + p(-1) = b
pq - p - q = b
pq - (p + q) = b
pq - (1 - a) = b
pq = b + 1 - a
Thus, pq = 1 - a +b
Hence, option c is correct.
