For multiple refraction , apparent depth h is given by,

begin mathsize 14px style h space equals space sum from i equals 1 to n of d subscript i over mu subscript i end style
where d is real depth of medium-i and μ is the refractive index

Hence apparent depth = [ h/ (2√2 ) ] + h/√2 = (3√2/4)h
