t = α x2 + β x  ............................(1)
 
By differentiating equation (1) with respect to time,  1 = ( 2α x + β ) (dx/dt)
 
Hence velocity, v = (dx/dt) = 1 / ( 2α x + β )  .....................(2)
 
by differentiating equation (2), dv/dt = [ -1/ ( 2α x + β )2 ]  2α (dx/dt)  ...................(3)
 
By substituting for (dx/dt) from eqn.(2), we rewrite eqn.(3) as ,  dv/dt = - [ 1 / ( 2α x + β )3 ] ( 2α ) = - 2α v3
 
Hence retardation = 2α v3
