number of images formed by two plane mirrors if inclined at 40°
Let θ be the angle between mirror , then number n of images is

if ( 360 / θ ) is even then n = ( 360 / θ ) - 1

if ( 360 / θ ) is odd and object is placed symmetrically  then n = ( 360 / θ ) - 1

if ( 360 / θ ) is odd and object is not placed symmetrically  then n = ( 360 / θ )

case (1) , object is placed symmetrically , i.e. object is on anglular bisector

θ = 40° ,  ( 360 / 40 ) = 9  , odd number   , hence numver of images n = 9-1 = 8

case (2) , object is not placed symmetrically , i.e. object is not on anglular bisector

θ = 40° ,  ( 360 / 40 ) = 9   , hence numver of images n = 9
