Expert Answer
The nucleoid is an irregularly shaped region within the prokaryotic cell that contains all or most of the genetic material. It is a chromatin-dense area within the cytoplasm and contains the bacterial DNA, associated proteins and RNA that are responsible for controlling the bacteria's activity and reproduction.
The DNA double helix in the cell nucleus is packaged by special proteins termed histones. The formed protein/DNA complex is called chromatin.
So, basically both nucleoid and chromatin contain the genetic material and carry out similar function of determining the genetic characteristics of organisms.
Hence, nucleoid and chromatin are analogous in nature.
