Let A = 3^12 * 2^8
 
Taking log on both sides
log A = log ( 3^12 * 2^8)
logA = 12log3 + 8log2
logA = 12*0.47712 + 8*0.30103
logA = 5.72544 + 2.40824
log A = 8.13368
A = 10^8.13368
 
And hence, A will have 9 digits (of the order of 10^8)
