Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted by endocrine glands. They are secreted directly into the blood and transported throughout the body. Hormones reach their target organs to stimulate or inhibit specific physiological processes.
Hormones can be secreted by one organ can act on multiple organs in animals.
Example: Insulin is secreted by the pancreas. It acts on the liver, muscles, and adipose tissue. Insulin regulates blood glucose levels, which helps maintain energy homeostasis in the body.
