Let PQRS be a square.
P(3, 4) and R(1. -1)
Let coordinates of a point Q(x, y)
PQ = QR
Squaring on both sides,
PQ2 = QR2
(x - 3)2 + (y - 4)2 = (x - 1)2 + (y + 1)2
Solving this we get
4x + 10y = 23
Length of hypotenuse = √2 × side
PR = √2 PQ
PR2 = 2PQ2
(3 - 1)2 + (4 + 1)2 = 2[(x - 3)2 + (y - 4)2 ]
Solving this we get x = 9/2 or -1/2
Find value of y when x = 9/2 and x = -1/2
we get y = 1/2 and y = 5/2.
vertices of a square are (9/2, 1/2) and (-1/2, 5/2)
