Let direction of one of force coincide with the direction of x-axis,
so that this force F = |F| i and other force F = (|F|/2) i + ( √3 /2 ) |F| j
Resultant of two forces = (3/2) |F| i + ( √3 /2 ) |F| j and its square of magnitude = 3 |F|2 = 3 Q2
Hence magnitude of each force is Q units
If one of force making angle 120° with other, then this force F = -(1/2) |F| i + ( √3 /2 ) |F| j
Then resultant will be (1/2) |F| i + ( √3 /2 ) |F| j and its magnitude is |F| or Q
