Differences between parasite and pathogen:

Parasite

Pathogen

  • It thrives inside or on the body of another organism called the host.  
  • It causes disease or sickness to its host.
  • There are 3 main types of parasites- protozoa, helminth and ectoparasites.
  • There are 6 types of pathogens- bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, helminth and rickettsia.
  • They are macroscopic.
  • They are microscopic.
  • All parasites do not cause infectious diseases in the host organism.
  • All pathogens are responsible for causing diseases in the host organism.

 

(ii) Infection with protozoans is called protozoal infections.
