Resistivity ρ has linear dependence on temperature T as given below.
![begin mathsize 14px style rho space equals space rho subscript o left square bracket space 1 space plus space alpha space left parenthesis space T space minus space T subscript o right parenthesis space right square bracket end style](https://images.topperlearning.com/topper/tinymce/cache/279ad2949ba7699e9b95666d4fcf9c46.png)
where ρo is resistivity at temperature at To = 20o C and α is temperature coefficient .
In most conducting metals, the resistivity increases with increasing temperature.
The increasing temperature causes increased vibrations of the atoms in the lattice structure of the metals,
The increasing temperature causes increased vibrations of the atoms in the lattice structure of the metals,
which impede the motion of the electrons and increases the resistivity.
