Expert Answer
The Cabinet Mission rejected the Muslim League’s demand for Pakistan. Following are the important reasons:
- The formation of Pakistan would not solve the communal minorities problem. Even after the creation of Pakistan, 37.93% non Muslims would still be in the North-West zone of Pakistan and 48.31% would be in the North-East zone.n.
- There was no justification for including the non Muslim districts of Bengal, Assam and Punjab within Pakistan.
- The armed forces, transportation and the postal and telegraph system would have to be divided between the two new states. This would create problems.
- The Princely States would find it difficult to decide which Union to join.
- The two halves of the state of Pakistan would be separated by seven hundred miles of Indian territory. This would make communication between the two territories of Pakistan very difficult.
