Express as linear equation : the total strength of a class is 56, and the twice the number of boys is equal to 5 times the number of girls.

Expert Answer
Let x be the number of boys in a class and y be the number of girls in a class.
Total strength of a class = 56
x + y = 56...........(i)
According to the question,
2 × number of boys = 5 × number of girls
2x = 5y
x = 5y/2
Put it in (i)
5y/2 + y = 56
