Three effects of print culture on the French Revolution were:
i) Print popularized the ideas of the enlightened thinkers. They attacked the absolute authority of the Church and the despotic power of the state.
(ii) New ideas of social revolution came into being. Public had become aware of the power of reason and tried to question ideas and beliefs.
(iii) By the 1780s, there was an outpouring of literature that mocked the royalty and criticized their morality. Ideas of thinkers like Voltaire and Rousseau and their concepts of freedom and liberty influenced the middle class in France. Cartoons and caricatures typically suggested that the monarchy remained absolutely in pleasures while the common people suffered immense hardships.
