the sum of salaries of the 99 people=99*50

salary of the 100th employee=50+49.50=99.50

so sum of all 100 salaries=99*50+99.50=4950+99.50=5049.50

so mean=5049.50/100=50.49

this is done by the formula for mean, but pl remember that in such a case the most correct average is median, when one of the observations differs from the others so much..
