Cells of meristematic tissue divide continously and help in the growth of the plant, both lengthwise and breadthwise. Meristematic tissues are of three types 1) Apical 2) Lateral and 3) Intercalry.
Permanent tissues are derived from meristematic tissues and usually do not have the power to divide. They have attained a definite form and function. They may be simple or complex. Example Parenchyma, Sclerenchyma, Xylem etc.
