ICSE Class 8 Answered
Could British rule in India possibly have been avoided had Jahangir not given trading concessions and rights to Sir Thomas Roe?

This is a hypothetical question. The Mughal empire was still powerful at the time of Jehangir. Thomas Munroe was given trading rights as India was a growing and an established economy at that time. It was only when the Mughal empire began to deteriorate and finally disintegrated, the power vacuum was created in India. At this time, the British quickly strengthened their position and emerged victorious in the Battle of Plassey. So, the British would have still conquered India even if Jehangir had not given any trading rights or concessions to Thomas Munroe.
