Alcohols and carboxylic acids, both have H+ ion but carboxylic acid is strong acid.
This is because, in case of carboxylic acids, the carboxylate ion formed is after donation of proton, is very stable, hence, carboxylic acid is strong acid.
R-COOH ↔ RCOO− + H+
R-OH ↔ RO− + H+
Thus, dissociation of proton is more favourable in carboxylic acids than in alcohols.
Hence, the chemical properties of alcohols and carboxylic acids are different.
