A real number a is a zero of a polynomial p(x), if p(a) = 0.
(i) x2 - 3x + 2
x = -2
p(-2) = (-2)2 - 3(-2) + 2 = 4 + 6 + 2 = 12
Since p(-2) is not zero.
→ x = -2 is not a zero of the given quadratic polynomila.
x = -1
p(-1) = (-1)2 - 3(-1) + 2 = 1 + 3 + 2 = 6
Since p(-1) is not zero.
→ x = -1 is not a zero of the given quadratic polynomila.
(ii) x2 - 3x - 18
x = -2
p(-2) = (-2)2 - 3(-2) - 18 = 4 + 6 - 18 = -8
Since p(-2) is not zero.
→ x = -2 is not a zero of the given quadratic polynomila.
x = -1
p(-1) = (-1)2 - 3(-1) - 18 = 1 + 3 - 18 = - 14
Since p(-1) is not zero.
→ x = -1 is not a zero of the given quadratic polynomila.
