as we know that the speed of electron is very slow then also when we switch on light it starts immediately. how does it happen

Expert Answer
It is true that drift speed of electron is very slow, few cm / hour .
But when we switch on the light, the low drift speed does not affect the instantaneous switching on of light.
At power source, there are two terminals one at higher potenial compare to other
( In alternating current, this higher potential is changing from one terminal to other at the rate of 50Hz.).
Hence there is an electric field across these terminals at power source at given time.
when these two terminals are connected to electric-light through switch, the field configuration travels through wire
with speed of light to the terminals of electric light.Then the electric-light starts to operate instantaneously
