Dear Student
Side of the square inside the circle= D cos45
Area of teh square = D2cos245 =D2/2 ==>(1)
Area of the circle = π (D/2)2= π D2/ 4 ==>(2)
Area of teh shaded region you required A= [ Eqn(2)-Eqn(1) ] /2 = [ π D2/ 4 - D2/2 ] /2 =(D2/ 8) ( π-2)
If D=2 A= ( π-2)/2 Sq units.
No need to consider the outer square side at all.
