A man travels a distance of 120km in 4hours and 30 minutes.Partly by a Bus at a speed of 35km/hr and partly by bike at a speed of 20km/hr. Find the distance covered by him by bike.

Distance travelled by Bus  = x
Distance travelled by Bike = 120 - x
According to the condition, we get


 
 begin mathsize 16px style straight x over 35 space plus space fraction numerator 120 space minus space straight x over denominator 20 end fraction space equals space 4.5 rightwards double arrow 20 straight x space plus space 4200 space minus space 35 straight x space equals space 3150 rightwards double arrow space minus 15 straight x space equals space minus 1050 rightwards double arrow space straight x space equals space 70 end style
So, the distance covered by him by bike is 120 - x = 120 - 70 = 50 km
