Maharashtra Class 9 Answered
a convex mirror has a focal length of 18cm . the image of an object kept in front of the mirror is half the height of the object .what is the distance of the object from the mirror

magnification m = -v/u = 1/2 , hence u = -2v
where u and v are mirror-to-object and mirror-to-image distance respectively
we have mirror equation as, (1/v) + (1/u) = 1/f
hence , ( -2/u ) + (1/u) = 1/18
By solving above eqn., we get u = -6 cm
i.e. object is placed at 6 cm in front of the mirror
