a ball is thrown vertically upwards withe an initial velocity u from the top of a tower, reaches the ground with velocity 3u. find the height of tower?

Expert Answer
When the ball is thrown vertically upwards with velocity u , then distance it covers from the top of the tower is calculated by
v2- u2 = 2aS1
0 - u2 = 2(-g)S1
S1 = u2/2g
Now, next Distance covered by the ball is S1+ height of the tower to reach the ground
Now , v2- u2 = 2a(S1+ h)
(3u)2 - 0 = 2g(u2/2g + h)
9u2/2g = (u2/2g + h)
9u2/2g - u2/2g = h
4u2/g = h
