If the diagonals of the quadrilateral are equal how to prove it is a parallelogram ?

This statement is false. 
 
If the diagonals of a quadrilateral are equal, it need not be a parallelogram.
 
For example see in the following diagram which I have made in the figure below
both the diagonals are equal and it is not a parallelogram.
 
 
So you need more information if you want to prove it is a parallelogram.
 
With this alone information, it is wrong to say that is a parallelogram 
which is shown in the above figure.
