The height of a cone is 36cm. A small cone is cut off at the top by a plane parellel to its base. If its volume is 8/27 of the volume of the given cone at what height above the base is the section made?

Let R be the radius of the bigger cone. Its height is given to be 36
Using similarity of triangles,
It's given that the volumes are in the ratio 8:27.
So we conclude that the section is made 12 cm (36-24=12) above the base.
