Why was Shah Jahan determined to subjugate the Deccan?

Three states in the Deccan - Bijapur, Golconda and Ahmadnagar - frequently provided shelter to the Mughal enemies. They were also threatening the peace and stability of the Mughal empire. Shah Jahan thus was determined to subjugate the Deccan region.
