why is the stomata partially closed when it is cloudy during the day?

  • During cloudy days, there is a lot of humidity in the air.
  • If the stomata remain fully open, there will be more loss of water from the stomata.
  • In order to prevent the loss of water from the stomata, they remain partially closed on a cloudy day.
  • This helps to decrease the rate of transpiration from the leaves.
