In 1453 CE, Constantinople was attacked and captured by the Ottoman Turks.
This event had two great effects on the history of the world. Many Greek scholars residing in Constantinople fled to Italy with important manuscripts. This led to the beginning of the Renaissance first in Italy.Second, since the land route from Europe to Asia was now captured by the Turks, European countries undertook several voyages and sea explorations in search of new sea routes to Asia and Africa. This marked the beginning of the ‘Age of Geographical Explorations’.
