Dear Student,

When quicklime (CaO) combines with water (H2O), calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 is generated, along with the release of heat.
As a result, it is termed as an exothermic reaction.
The chemical reaction can be represented as:
CaO(s) + H2O(l) →  Ca(OH)2(aq)
As a result, when water is added to quicklime, the temperature rises. This is an illustration of an exothermic process.
