- Paddy is also called rice paddy. A small, level, flooded field used to cultivate rice in southern and eastern Asia.
- In India, rice is grown in almost half the states, with West Bengal leading the way in terms of production, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
- Paddy farmers get their fields ready before the rainy season.
- The weeds are cleared and the field is ploughed by buffaloes or tractors to a depth of few inches.
- Manures and fertilizers are added to the soil.
- The field is then ready for receiving seedlings from the nursery.
