The historic Objectives Resolution was moved by Jawahar Lal Nehru on 13 December 1946 and was adopted on 22 January 1947. Following are the first three provisions of the objective resolution proposed by Jawaharlal Nehru:
- Independent India will essentially be a republic.
- Social, political and economic democracy would be guaranteed to all the people.
- The Republic would grant fundamental rights to all its citizens.
