The writing of critical historical narrative or a text is known as historiography. A historian does not write about every past event. He may include and exclude an event in his writings depending upon his conceptual framework.

The tradition of writing a historiography was not present in the ancient societies but people in those times passed on their experiences to next generations through cave-painting, story-telling and singing songs. These are the sources of history. It means that a historian examine these sources while writing historical text.
