answered-by-expert Expert Answer

Vegetative propagation is a form of reproduction in which new plants develop by asexual methods from the roots, stems, or leaves of the parent plant.

Vegetative propagation can occur naturally or artificially by human intervention. Methods of artificial vegetative propagation are cutting, budding, grafting, rooting, air layering and tissue culture. Farmers, gardeners and horticulturists have adopted artificial propagation for propagating plants in gardens and nurseries. Artificial propagation is often used to reproduce a plant with desirable characteristics, create better plants, hasten fruit production or prevent a species from becoming extinct. Since artificial propagation does not rely on seeds, it allows new plants to be produced quickly.
