Expert Answer
Gerunds
A gerund is a word that looks like an “ing” form of a verb, but it acts as a noun in a sentence. These words have the qualities of both nouns and verbs.
Example:
Reading is my hobby.
Here “reading” is a name given to an activity and all names are nouns. But it also represents an action, so it has the quality of a verb as well.
Gerunds can act as subjects.
Example:
Lying is a bad habit.
Gerunds can also act as objects.
Example:
She loves gardening.
