Expert Answer
The Kalighat painters mostly depicted mythological themes in their paintings. However, after the 1840s, as society was undergoing rapid changes, the Kalighat painters began to draw scenes from social life. They usually ridiculed Indians who imitated the dressing style of the British, spoke English or sat on chairs. They also expressed the anger of the poor people against the rich in their paintings.
