There are two kinds of units
1. Fundamental units : -
The units which can neither be derived from other units nor they can be further resolved into simpler units are called fundamental units.
Examples: Mass, length etc.
The seven fundamental quantities and their units are as follows : -
Fundamental quantity | Unit |
Time | Second |
Length | metre |
Mass | kilogram |
Electric current | Ampere |
Temperature | Kelvin |
Amount of substance | mol |
Intensity | Candela |
2. Derived units : -
Derived units are those which depend on the fundamental units or which can be expressed in terms of the fundamental units.
Examples of derrived units are as follows: -
