Powers of the High Court:

  1. Original Jurisdiction: This jurisdiction refers to those cases that are heard and decided by the High Court for the first time. These cases include
    1. Disputes concerning fundamental rights
    2. Election petitions
    3. Issues regarding wills, marriages, divorces and contempt of court
  2. Appellate Jurisdiction: This jurisdiction refers to cases which the High Court hears against the judgments by the Subordinate Courts.
  3. Administrative Powers:
    1. Transfer a case from one High Court to another.
    2. Controls and supervises the functioning of Subordinate Courts.
    3. Act as a Court of Record.
    4. Enjoys the power of revisional jurisdiction.
