The importance of having a federal kind of government is as follows:

1. India is a vast country consisting of 29 states and 7 union territories. Therefore, it is not possible for a single government to handle the whole country. Also, it helps in maintaining the unity and dignity of India.
2. As India consists of various people with different cultures and religions, it is of utmost importance to have a federal government. Otherwise, separatist forces will end up fighting for fragmentation and provincialism of the country.
3. The administrative powers have been divided between the State Governments and the Central Government. This is done so that none of them can violate the limitations imposed by our Constitution.
