The Vidhan Parishad is also known as the Legislative Council.

Composition:

1. It can contain not less than 40 and not more than one-third the strength of the State Legislative Assembly.
2. It cannot be dissolved.
3. The members of the Vidhan Parishad are partly elected and partly nominated. Every 2 years, one-third of its members retire.
4. One-third of its members is elected by the local bodies which include the municipalities and Zila Parishads.
5. One-twelfth of its members are elected by teachers.
6. One-twelfth of its members are elected by graduates.
