State four chief characteristics of igneous rocks.

  1. Since igneous rocks are formed by the cooling and solidification of magma, these rocks are hard and resistance to erosion.
  2. Igneous rocks are also called primary rocks as other rocks are basically formed from igneous rocks.
  3. These rocks are usually fine grained with smooth texture or may have large crystals with coarse texture.
  4. Igneous rocks can be further classified into extrusive igneous rocks and intrusive igneous rocks.
