Simplify by removing the brackets and grouping like terms.  a) 2 ( 3x + 4 ) + 6 b) -4 ( x + 3 ) - 7

  1. a) 2 ( 3x + 4 ) + 6 
    = 6x + 8 + 6 
    = 6x + 14 

    b) -4 ( x + 3 ) - 7 
    = -4x - 12 - 7 
    = -4x - 19
