Prove that the diagonal of a parallelogram divides it into two triangles of equal area.

Given: A parallelogram ABCD.
To prove: ar (ABC) = ar (CDA)
In ABC and ADC,
AB = CD                                             (opposite sides of a parallelogram)
BC = DA                                             (opposite sides of a parallelogram)
AC = CA                                             (common)
ABC CDA                             (SSS)
Hence, ar (ABC) = ar (CDA)               (congruent figures have equal areas)
