Let x be the savings Amount invested to buy two kinds of share.
First share is purchased with 80% of amount, hence invested amount in first share 0.8x
If first share is purchased with 20% premeium, number of shares = ( 0.8x/120 )
if each share is giving 10% divident, then total divedent amount of first share = ( 0.8x/120)×10 .......................(1)
Invested amount in second share 0.2x
If second share is purchased with 20% discount, number of shares = (0.2x/40)
if each share is giving 20% divident, then total divedent amount of second share = ( 0.2x/40)×10 ..................(2)
Total earnings from both the share, using eqn.(1) and eqn.(2) =
hence total amount invested = Rs.48000
number of shares of first kind = (0.8×48000)/120 = 320
Overall return = (5600/48000)×100 ≈ 11.67 %
