By equality of matrices, we have

x + y = 5  ....(i)

a + b = -1  ….(ii)

a - b = 3  ….(iii)

2x - 3y = -5 ….(iv)

Adding (ii) and (iii), we get

2a = 2 ⇒ a = 1

Putting a = 1 in (ii), we get

1 + b = -1 ⇒ b = -2

To find x and y, multiplying (i) by 3, we get

3x + 3y = 15 ….(v)

Adding (iv) and (v), we get

5x = 10 ⇒ x = 2

Putting x = 2 in (i), we get

2 + y = 5 ⇒ y = 3

Hence, x = 2, y = 3, a = 1 and b = -2.
