Parathyroid hormone absorbs calcium from food and kidneys and deposits it on bones and teeth. It increases calcium levels in the blood.  Parathyroid hormone stimulates bone resorption by acting directly on osteoblasts/stromal cells and then indirectly to increase differentiation and function of osteoclasts. Thus, it has a role in bone formation.

Therefore, statements II and IV are correct.

PTH inhibits osteoblast activity and stimulates osteoclast activity leading to bone breakdown and calcium release.  It regulates only calcium levels in the blood and not phosphate level.

Therefore, statements I and III are incorrect.

So, the correct answer is option (1) - I and III.
