On the basis of Mendel's experiments what are factors and their significance?

According to Mendel ‘factors" are the carriers of hereditary information and found in the form of pair for each character. Each factor of this pair comes from each parent and again segregates further at the time of reproduction (formation of gametes) so that only one factor can pass on to the gamete.
