A force can produce the following two effects when acting on a non-rigid body.

(i) Force can change the state of rest or the state of motion.

Eg. A stalled car starts moving when two persons give it a push.

(ii) A force may change the size or shape of the body.

Eg. When we load a spring an increase in the length of the spring takes place.
